What can be measured from outside
A studio cannot hide the sites it built. They are public, and most of them carry its name at the bottom. That is the signal we decided to count — and the principle the whole register rests on.
Three months of the project went into a question that sounds trivial: which facts about a studio exist outside the studio's own words?
The answer turned out to be a short list. Its office is on the world map, tagged by mapmakers, with a website field. Its work is on the open web, and the bottom of a website usually says who made it. Its own site tells you what languages it works in and where it sits. Everything else — quality, reliability, price, awards, «top-rated» — is either an opinion or a claim.
The rule we set for ourselves
Publish only what can be observed or clearly attributed to somebody else. No reviews, no stars, no editorial picks. When a figure is ours, it is measured and we say so; when it comes from a third party, it is labelled and linked. A register that mixes the two is a magazine pretending to be an instrument.
This rule costs us features. It means we cannot rank by «quality», and we will never have the fastest-growing page on the internet. It also means every number here can be checked by anyone who wants to.
